I quit teaching due to hunger, salary was so poor - Special Prosecutor

Image
Special Prosecutor Kiss Agyabeng has revealed that hunger and poor salary were the reasons he quit teaching.  According to him, his salary as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ghana was nothing to write home about so he decided to drop the chalk.  Speaking in an exclusive interview on Peace FM, Kissi Agyabeng did not shy away from the fact that Ghanaian teachers are poorly paid despite their hard work and dedication.   He had the following to say: “I have it on good authority that lecturers at the University of Ghana are not paid more than $100 per month. What is the current value of the dollar in cedis? So, even if a Legon lecturer is paid GHS5000, what can he do with it?"

Ejura report: Transfer police commander; compensate deceased families, says committee

Image
The ministerial committee which investigated the Ejura disturbances in June has recommended for the transfer of the police chief in the area, DSP Philip Kojo Hammond. The civil unrest in Ejura erupted when a social activist, Ibrahim Mohammed “Kaaka”, 45, was attacked by unknown people on 27 June. He died on Monday (28 June) at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, where he was receiving treatment. Security personnel then fired into an angry crowd of young protesters in the town after the funeral of “Kaaka” on 29 June, killing Abdul Nasiw and Muntala Mohammed. The three-member committee which investigated the issue in their report released on Monday (27 September), said:  “The committee recommends the immediate transfer of the District Police Commander of Ejura, DSP Philip Kojo Hammond, first for his incompetence in handling the situation and for the fact that, his relationship with the community seems to have been damaged beyond repai...

Is President Mahama not undermining democracy?

Image
Forget Do or Die! The issues are much bigger than that. Why has ex-President Mahama turned his supposed Thank You Tour into a subversive mission of the democracy we have built since 1992? Pay attention to what he has been saying on the tour: “The elections were clearly rigged.”  “There was overstuffing of ballot papers in several constituencies.”  “Soldiers were deployed purposely to kill people and suppress the will to vote”. These are but a few of the things President Mahama has been saying on his tour.Do or Die caught the attention of everyone because it sounded macabre. However, pay attention to the fine print and you will discover a sinister ploy to reduce the confidence of the people in the democracy we are running.  John Mahama certainly has the right to hold his views no matter how jaundiced they may be. However, when he systematically maligns the institutions of state that anchor our democracy, then he has his knives out to fatally wound that system of governance...
