Reconstruction of Gbewaa Palace to affect 115 Houses


The redevelopment of the Gbewaa Palace project is expected to affect 115 houses around the Gbewaa Palace, the Dagbon Development Committee has revealed.

The current area of the palace which occupies about 4 acres will be expanded to cover more than 33 acres of land in and around the palace.

The redevelopment of the palace is expected to cost the people of Dagbon more than 20 Million Ghana cedis.

When completed, the extra modern palace complex would have a storey building structured hall (zoÅ‹), a cultural center museums, apartments for the king’s wives, security posts among other facilities.

Lead Architect of the Committee’s Sub committee on the Gbewaa Palace redevelopment project, Alhaji Sheriff Savannah announced this at the Joint First Full Council meeting of the DagbaÅ‹ Traditional Council and DagbaÅ‹ Development Committee held in Tamale on Saturday 2nd of October 2021.

He also presented the architectural design for the construction of the Dagbon Traditional Council complex.

The Paramount Chief of the Karaga Traditional Area, Naa Bakpem Kari-Naa Abdulai Nantogmah who spoke on behalf of the Dagbon Development Committee said the project will be funded by the chiefs and people of Dagbon, with support from the Dagbon’s development partners and central government.

He said the committee is working to provide compensation packages to persons whose homes will be affected by the project.

Kari Naa Abdulai called on residents of Dagbon and Dagombas in particular, to support in making the project a success.
