Coversation! If you're the son what will you do?

Son: "Daddy, I fell in love and want to date this awesome girl!"

Father: That's great son. Who is she?

Son: She is Sandra, the neighbor's daughter.

Father: Ohhhh! I wish you hadn't said that. I have to tell you something son, but you must promise not to tell your mother. Sandra is actually your sister.

The boy is naturally bummed out, but life goes on, and indeed, a couple of months later.

Son: Daddy, I fell in love again and she is even hotter!

Father: That's great son. Who is she?

Son: She is Angela, the other neighbor's daughter.

Father: Ohhhh I wish you hadn't said that. Angela is also your sister.

This went on couple of times and the son was so mad, he went straight to his mother crying.

Son: Mum, I am so mad at dad! I fell in love with six girls but I can't date any of them. Because dad is their father!

Mother: (The mother hugs him affectionately and said to her child) "My love, you can date whoever you want. He isn't your father"

Notional and Substantive Dates Explained

You are likely to come across these two phrases: " Notional Date " and " Substantive Date ", on you promotion letter. These are what they mean.  NOTIONAL DATE is the official date of a newly promoted/upgraded/appointed staff. This is the actual date the staff is qualified to be promoted or upgraded to their new ranks/grades in the Ghana Education Service.   For example, if a newly trained Teacher is appointed in September 2020 to the rank of Senior Supt II, all things being equal, the staff will be ready for promotion to Supt 1 in September 2024.  However, these dates are not always used for salary adjustments and the staff may also not be necessarily paid with effect from these dates.  But Notional Dates are used for the purposes of promotion and appointment.
