GES Boss Congratulates three students for taking all top three (3) WAEC awards

Congratulations to three of our own for taking all top three (3) awards at the just ended 2023 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) International Excellence Awards.

The three outstanding students were awarded at the 72nd Annual Council Meeting in Freetown, Sierra Leone on Tuesday, 19th March 2024.

Tuesday was a historic day for me and the Ghanaian delegation who cheered our students on to receive the first, second and third place awards.

The award winners are:

  1. Amo-Kodieh Leonard Kofi Marton, St James Seminary Senior High School (Overall Best Student)
  2. Dzandu Selorm, Labone Senior High School (Second place)
  3. Daniel Asenso-Gyambibi also from St James Seminary Senior High School (Third place)

The International Excellence Awards for WASCCE for School Candidates are presented to the three (3) overall best candidates from the member countries that subscribe to the WASSCE, namely the Gambia, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

Congratulations Leonard, Selorm and Daniel! Ghana is proud of you.

These awards are a testament to the hardwork, dedication and collaboration between our teachers and I commend all teachers for their commitment to excellence. Ayekoo!

Supreme Court declares late Naa Dasana Andani as rightful chief of Bimbilla

The Supreme Court has declared the late Paramount Chief of the Nanumba Traditional Area, (Bimbilla), Naa Dasana Andani, as the rightful chief of the area. Wednesday’s decision brings clarity to the protracted Bimbila chieftaincy crisis that had led to the death of many people including Naa Andani in 2014. The five-member panel of the apex court reaffirmed the decisions of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs and the National House of Chiefs that declared Naa Andani as the legitimate chief of the area. Another claimant to the Bimbilla skin, the late Nakpa Naa Salifu Dawuni, filed the appeal at the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the National House of Chiefs. But in a unanimous decision on Wednesday May 23, 2018, the Supreme Court held that Naa Andani's lineage to the Bimbilla Skin was legitimate. “We therefore find no merit in the appeal and it is dismissed in its entirety,” the court held. UDS warns students against occultism

Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye, Vice-Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has warned students against occultism, anti-social and non-conformist activities, saying the rules of the university frown on such acts. He said: “We totally reject and will not countenance the activities of unregistered clubs and associations and occultism. The university management shall invoke the rules and regulations drastically and mercilessly on any student or group of students who engage in occultism and other anti-social and non-conformist activities.” He gave the warning during the 23rd matriculation of UDS in Tamale on Saturday where a total 4,806 students out of 13,079 applicants were admitted to pursue various undergraduate programmes for the 2015/2016 academic year.
