Severe water crisis hits Tamale

The Northern Regional capital Tamale has been hit by severe water crisis.

The worrying development during this Christmas season is making life in the Tamale Metro Area unexciting.

The water crisis coupled with the Harmattan weather has kept most residents disappointed.

According to reports, the taps have not been flowing for close to two weeks.

Management of Ghana Water Company has kept mute on the situation, leaving residents of the affected communities angry.

The affected communities include Sabonjida, Kukuo, Changli, Dohin-Naayili and Moshie Zongo.

The situation is gradually crippling commercial activities in the Tamale Metro Area.

Restaurant operators, Hoteliers, washing bays, laundry service providers are grappling with the situation.

Some of them who cannot afford to pay for exorbitant charges by water tanker service providers bemoaned the situation and called for immediate solutions.

The Tamale Teaching Hospital which needs constant water supply is among some of affected major installations.

Equally, some frustrated children have been walking distances with gallons in search of water.

Some of them were spotted pushing wheel barrows and trucks moving from place to place.

Supreme Court declares late Naa Dasana Andani as rightful chief of Bimbilla

The Supreme Court has declared the late Paramount Chief of the Nanumba Traditional Area, (Bimbilla), Naa Dasana Andani, as the rightful chief of the area. Wednesday’s decision brings clarity to the protracted Bimbila chieftaincy crisis that had led to the death of many people including Naa Andani in 2014. The five-member panel of the apex court reaffirmed the decisions of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs and the National House of Chiefs that declared Naa Andani as the legitimate chief of the area. Another claimant to the Bimbilla skin, the late Nakpa Naa Salifu Dawuni, filed the appeal at the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the National House of Chiefs. But in a unanimous decision on Wednesday May 23, 2018, the Supreme Court held that Naa Andani's lineage to the Bimbilla Skin was legitimate. “We therefore find no merit in the appeal and it is dismissed in its entirety,” the court held. UDS warns students against occultism

Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye, Vice-Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has warned students against occultism, anti-social and non-conformist activities, saying the rules of the university frown on such acts. He said: “We totally reject and will not countenance the activities of unregistered clubs and associations and occultism. The university management shall invoke the rules and regulations drastically and mercilessly on any student or group of students who engage in occultism and other anti-social and non-conformist activities.” He gave the warning during the 23rd matriculation of UDS in Tamale on Saturday where a total 4,806 students out of 13,079 applicants were admitted to pursue various undergraduate programmes for the 2015/2016 academic year.
