Pupils still studying under trees in Tolon

Hundreds of basic school pupils in the Tolon District of the Northern Region have been forced to study under trees.

This is because 12 basic school blocks which were ripped off by rainstorm in the area are yet to be repaired.

The disaster occurred several months ago and one of the affected schools was Woribogu Ahmadiya Primary School.

Additionally, some of the classrooms are overcrowded due to inadequate infrastructure.

Head teacher of Woribogu Ahmadiya Primary School, Christiana Alandong earlier called for government’s immediate attention.

The Member of Parliament for Tolon, Hon. Wahab Suhuyini Wumbei told Citi News plans were afoot to fix the problem.

“During the onset of the rains a number of schools in the district were affected by rainstorm but we were able to do estimates for nine schools.”

He explained, “I wrote to the Ministry of education through the district Director of education and just last two months the Ministry of education gave approval for the refurbishment of these schools.”

According to the Tolon Legislator, the District Assembly awarded the contracts and expected that work will start soon.

”Hon. Wahab Suhuyini Wumbei said he lobbied for enough infrastructure to decongest overcrowded schools in the district.

“We have two JHS in Tolon Township and the second one is on the Dimabi road: when I visited the school last year I noticed that some of the classes had more than hundred pupils and I thought it was not good enough to encourage teaching and learning.”

He continued saying, “I lobbied the Ministry of Education and got three classroom block and currently constructionis at the lenten level: I am also going to usemy GETfund to construct a three classroom block for a community Senior High School at Kasuliyili.

”Hon. Wahab Suhuyini Wumbei thereby admonished parents and guardians in the area to invest in their children’s education.
