Minister of Education Swears in GES Council Members.

The Hon. Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, on Thursday, January 13, 2022, inaugurated the Governing Council of the Ghana Education Service at a short swearing- in ceremony.

He congratulated the Council members for their appointment onto the GES Council and called on them to bring their wide knowledge and expertise to bear on Pre-tertiary Education in order to help the President and the Government train young Ghanaians to become relevant in the fourth revolution job space---the digital age.

The GES Council has a core function of advising the Minister of Education on policy formulation and the coordination of approved national policies, programmes and standards relating to Basic and Senior High Education delivery.

Governing body of the Education Service has its membership drawn from various Institutions including, the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), the National Teaching Council (NTC), the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), the Teacher Unions, the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Local Government Service Council (LGSC), the Faith Based Organisations (FBOs), and the Non-teaching Staff of the GES (TEWU).

A cross section of the Andani family   The Andani Royal Family in Dabgon has declared it is ready to engage the Abudu Family in yet another war over the latter’s notice to forcibly enter the Gbewaa Palace to perform the funeral rites of their late Regent, Naa Abdulai Mahamadu IV. The Abudu Family in a mammoth press conference on 11 January, 2016 in Yendi threatened government and the Asantehene-led committee with a two-week ultimatum to enforce processes that would grant them access to the Gbewaa Palace or they shall use other means to gain access to the palace. “We are compelled under the circumstances to serve notice that if by Monday, January 25 2016 there is no renovation works going on at the Gbewaa Palace for the two funerals we shall advice ourselves. WAEC clashes with Islamic authorities over wearing of hijab

A directive by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) asking Muslim girls to remove their headscarves or hijab, before taking passport pictures for their Basic Education Certificate Exam (BECE) registration has displeased the Islamic Unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES). Joy News correspondent Kwame Owusu Peprah has reported that the tussle over religious rights is happening in some basic schools in the Western Region. The Islamic unit finds the position of the WEAC officials unacceptable, describing it as an attempt to violate their religious freedom. WEAC's directive is asking that the girls show at least their ears and part of the forehead while taking the passport photos. Head of the GES’ Islamic unit Alhaji Mohammed Sanni told Joy News “the hijab is part of our Islamic traditions.
