Tolon Naa, 5 others officially gazetted

Five top-notch Paramount Chiefs and one divisional chief in Dagbon on Tuesday (15 June, 2021) were sworn in as members of the Northern Region House of Chiefs following the successful completion of their gazette process at the National House of Chiefs.

The Chiefs are; the embattled Chief of Nanton, Naa Mahamadu Baba Bawa, Chief of Karaga, Naa Abdulai Natogmah, Tolon Naa Major (rtd) Sulemana Abubakari I, Gushe Naa Abdulai Shitobu I and the Yelzol Lana Iddrisu Imoro and the Chief for Kworli (divisional), Naa Mahama II.

The Tamale Presiding High Court Judge, His Lordship Justice Richard Mac Kogyapwah administered the judicial oath and the oath of secrecy before the Chiefs were formally admitted as members of the house. The brief ceremony happened during the Second General Meeting of the house in Tamale.

THE CUSTODIAN has gathered some other Chiefs during the first session of the House as required by the statutory provisions of the laws of Ghana were also sworn in on 22 September, 2020.

In a related development, the Northern Region House of Chiefs has setup two separate judiciary committees to investigate the Chieftaincy stalemates in Karaga and Sanguli.

The Kumbungu Naa Iddrisu Abu, Bakpab-Naa Adam Natogmah and Saboba Naa John Mathew Sakogim IV were selected to investigate the Karaga crisis whilst Tolon Naa Major (rtd) Sulemana Abubakari I, Bakpab-Naa Adam Natogmah and Nakpale-Bore (Tatale Chief) Yankosor II also nominated to bring finality to the Sanguli chieftaincy impasse.

Ya Naa Abukari II, President of the Northern House of Chiefs in his remarks admonished the 6-member committee to expedite actions into those issues. He urged the committees not to overlook the customs and traditions of those areas in the course of their work to bring justice without fear or favor.

Meanwhile, information available to THE CUSTODIAN indicates the standoff in the Nanton traditional area has not officially been brought to the notice of the house, meaning no official complaint has made to the house in that regard to occasion an investigation.

District Assembly’s Vehicles Seized Over Indebtedness

A Bolgatanga High Court has impounded two vehicles belonging to the Talensi District Assembly for its inability to pay its debt to Tomore and Sons Company Ltd. The two cars are the official black Nissan Patrol of the District Chief Executive, with registration number GN 1790-11, and a red Navara Pick-Up with registration number GT 3591-11, which is the official vehicle for the District Coordinating Director. Tomore and Sons Company Ltd is demanding a total amount of GH¢ 81,345 from the Talensi District Assembly. The total debt comprises the principal amount of GH¢51,000, an interest of GH¢25,245 accrued from October 2012 to October 2014, and the legal cost of GH¢5,100. In October 2011, Tomore and Son Company Ltd, a construction firm, was awarded a contract by the Talensi District Assembly, then the Talensi-Nabdam District Assembly, to build a one-unit three classroom block with a store, four seater KVIP and urinal at Woog, all valued at GH¢60,000. Fire guts NORRIP warehouse

A warehouse belonging to the Northern Regional Rural Integrated Programme (NORRIP) in Tamale was yesterday destroyed by fire. The cause of the fire, which was said to have begun at about 1:45 p.m. yesterday, is yet to be established. Items However, items destroyed at the facility included vulcanising machines, wielding machines, car spare parts, refrigerators, mattresses, beds, furniture, pumping machines, air filters, and four 20-footer containers containing varied household items. In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the acting Programme Manager of NORRIP, Mr Henry Ankrah, said his attention was drawn to the fire at about 2 p.m. by some staff members at the United Nations (UN) offices, which was close to the warehouse. He said when he heard about the fire incident, he quickly called personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). Gov’t Intervenes As Court Orders Auctioning Of GHANASCO Cars

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mohammed Haroon Cambodia has confirmed government will be paying a staggering GHC400,000 as judgment debt to a private citizen in order to stop the auctioning of vehicles belonging to the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. Government is offering the bailout following a chronic transport difficulty that has hit the school for the last two years after a court order impounded the only bus for students and a brand new official pickup vehicle. Two Nissan patrol vehicles belonging to the Education directorate were also taken by the court. The vehicles were confiscated to be auctioned to pay up salary arrears of a former headmaster of the school who accused the school and education service of injustices including inappropriate dismissal and concealing his promotion letter.
