Tolon Naa, 5 others officially gazetted

 


Five top-notch Paramount Chiefs and one divisional chief in Dagbon on Tuesday (15 June, 2021) were sworn in as members of the Northern Region House of Chiefs following the successful completion of their gazette process at the National House of Chiefs.

The Chiefs are; the embattled Chief of Nanton, Naa Mahamadu Baba Bawa, Chief of Karaga, Naa Abdulai Natogmah, Tolon Naa Major (rtd) Sulemana Abubakari I, Gushe Naa Abdulai Shitobu I and the Yelzol Lana Iddrisu Imoro and the Chief for Kworli (divisional), Naa Mahama II.

The Tamale Presiding High Court Judge, His Lordship Justice Richard Mac Kogyapwah administered the judicial oath and the oath of secrecy before the Chiefs were formally admitted as members of the house. The brief ceremony happened during the Second General Meeting of the house in Tamale.

THE CUSTODIAN has gathered some other Chiefs during the first session of the House as required by the statutory provisions of the laws of Ghana were also sworn in on 22 September, 2020.

In a related development, the Northern Region House of Chiefs has setup two separate judiciary committees to investigate the Chieftaincy stalemates in Karaga and Sanguli.

The Kumbungu Naa Iddrisu Abu, Bakpab-Naa Adam Natogmah and Saboba Naa John Mathew Sakogim IV were selected to investigate the Karaga crisis whilst Tolon Naa Major (rtd) Sulemana Abubakari I, Bakpab-Naa Adam Natogmah and Nakpale-Bore (Tatale Chief) Yankosor II also nominated to bring finality to the Sanguli chieftaincy impasse.

Ya Naa Abukari II, President of the Northern House of Chiefs in his remarks admonished the 6-member committee to expedite actions into those issues. He urged the committees not to overlook the customs and traditions of those areas in the course of their work to bring justice without fear or favor.

Meanwhile, information available to THE CUSTODIAN indicates the standoff in the Nanton traditional area has not officially been brought to the notice of the house, meaning no official complaint has made to the house in that regard to occasion an investigation.
