Starbow flight crash-lands in Tamale

A 7am Starbow flight from Accra to Tamale on Tuesday endured a “severe crash landing” on the Tamale Airport runway, forcing the initiation of safety procedures for scared passengers and crew.

Images of the incident circulating on social media show gas masks hanging in the plane while the front end sits on the bare runway with the front tyres missing.

The dramatic turn was an anticlimax to an otherwise smooth early morning flight, according to a passenger who did not want to be named.

“It was scary, just when we were almost home. Allah is great, we thank him that we did not end up any worse,” she recounted.

Confirming the incident to Graphiconline, an official of Aero Surveys Limited, operators of Starbow, adjudged the 2014 domestic airline of the year, said there were no injuries to any passenger, describing the incident as “not too serious”.

Samuel Safo who offered apologies to all passengers and others affected by the incident, said he was not readily able to tell what caused the “severe crash landing” ahead of investigations.

“Thank God everyone is fine,” he said.
