WhatsApp tests a new redesign for Picture-in-Picture mode

WhatsApp has had picture-in-picture mode since 2018. PiP mode is convenient; when somebody sends you a video link from YouTube, Instagram, or Facebook, it lets you play the video in a small floating window right within the chat, so you don’t have to leave the conversation. While the feature has mostly remained unchanged over the years, WhatsApp is finally giving it a facelift in the latest update.

According to WABetainfo, WhatsApp is testing a new redesign for the picture-in-picture mode that adds a new control bar to the video player. The control bar appears at the bottom of the video and features controls like the pause/resume button, full-screen button, and close button. Previously these controls appeared on the video feed itself and kind of got in the way of the viewing experience. But with the dedicated control bar, you now get an unobstructed view of the video feed.

The picture-in-picture mode redesign is rolling out with the latest WhatsApp beta update. The redesign was available on my phone running WhatsApp beta version 2.21.22.3. It’s not available on the stable version of WhatsApp. If you want to check it out, you’ll need to be on the latest WhatsApp beta version. If you’re not a beta tester, you can sign up for the program here. Alternatively, you can also grab the APK straight from APKMirror.

Besides the new picture-in-picture mode, WhatsApp is working on tons of other features such as allowing you to transcribe voice messages, helping you find local shops and cafes, letting you hide Last Seen status from specific contacts, and more. WhatsApp is also working on allowing you to transfer your chats from Android to iOS, but there’s no official word yet on when it will be made available to users.

250 Labone students sacked for non-performance

Two hundred and fifty students of the Labone Senior High School (SHS) have been sacked for their abysmal performance in the end-of-year examination in July, this year. The students, who had an average of four failures in eight subjects, were sent packing when the first term of the 2014/2015 academic year began. Out of the number sacked, 155 of them were second-year students who were supposed to go to Form Three, while 95 were first-year students entering their second year.Also, 171 students who had an average of three failures in the examination have been asked to repeat their forms. About 800 Form Two students of the school were supposed to enter Form Three, while the number of first years who were expected to enter second year was 1,000. The action, according to the Headmistress of the school, Mrs Mary Amankwah, was in line with the school’s policy agreed upon by both the students and their parents at the time oftheir admissions. Family To Auction GHANASCO Cars As Govt Fails To Intervene

The family of late Lionel Mahama, a former headmaster of the Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) in Tamale, who won a court case against the school and Education service for wrongful demotion and freeze of salary, is ready to auction the confiscated assets of the school after failure by authorities, including government to pay a judgment debt awarded by the court.  Diana Awuni, daughter of the late headmaster told Starr News the family had finally secured a clearance document from the court and that a Kumasi-based auctioneer would arrive in Tamale in a fortnight to begin the process to liquidate the vehicles. It has emerged that the free senior high school education promised by President John Mahama, which he claims will be set in motion from the 2015/2016 academic year, is going to be at a cost of only GH¢50.00 per student. This is because with 365,000 day students, the government has budgeted GH¢18 million for the first term. Gov’t Intervenes As Court Orders Auctioning Of GHANASCO Cars

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mohammed Haroon Cambodia has confirmed government will be paying a staggering GHC400,000 as judgment debt to a private citizen in order to stop the auctioning of vehicles belonging to the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. Government is offering the bailout following a chronic transport difficulty that has hit the school for the last two years after a court order impounded the only bus for students and a brand new official pickup vehicle. Two Nissan patrol vehicles belonging to the Education directorate were also taken by the court. The vehicles were confiscated to be auctioned to pay up salary arrears of a former headmaster of the school who accused the school and education service of injustices including inappropriate dismissal and concealing his promotion letter.
