Knowledge exchange key to human capital transformation – Ya-Na

The Dagbon overlord Ya-Na Abukari II has indicated that education and knowledge exchange can play an important role in transforming human society.

According to him, monetary grants alone from advanced nations to the developing world would not bring the necessary and required human capital and infrastructure development needed to transform Africa.

He therefore urged leaders of the developing world and policymakers in Africa to prioritize knowledge transfer and exchange programs to accelerate development on the continent.

The Ya-Na was speaking in Turkey on Monday at a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor of the prestigious Bursa Technical University (BTU) in Bursa, Turkey.

The Ya-Na is on a 10-day working visit to Turkey.

He said for the developing world to achieve the needed development to take its rightful place in the world, emphasis must be given to the transfer of knowledge in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics from advanced countries to Africa to ensure rapid transformation of the continent.

He commended Prof. Dr. Naci Caglar, Vice-Chancellor of Bursa Technical University, for his good leadership and foresight in the management of the institution.

According to the Ya-Na, Prof. Caglar has demonstrated love for the people of Ghana by accepting to grant the King of Dagbon's request for a partnership between Bursa Technical University and Tamale Technical University (TaTu).

The partnership protocol shall include research opportunities for academic staff, exchange programs, scholarships, and transfer of knowledge in all fields of study to strengthen TaTu and Ghana's general human capital development. Prof. Dr. Naci Caglar praised the Ya-Na for his vision for the Dagbon Kingdom and Ghana.

He mentioned that BTU is not only strong in artificial intelligence, robotics, and engineering but also in all disciplines and programs undertaken at the university.

According to him, the university currently has three Ghanaian students at the undergraduate level and hopes that through this partnership, the institution will receive students for postgraduate and doctoral programs.

He lauded the Ya-Na for working to put his university and Tamale Technical University together to expand opportunities for students and academic staff members.

Prof. Caglar said BTU is a great university in the great and historic city of Bursa and looks forward to a strong partnership between his school and Tamale Technical University.

The meeting was attended by Dalun Lana Tapha Mahamadu III, Sakpe Naa Alabira, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Mohammed, Secretary to the Ya-Na, and Mr Musah Yakubu, all in the Ya-Na delegation.

Prof. Naci Caglar's side included Prof. Dr. Beyhan Bayhan, Registrar, Madam Alev Cuydur, Head of International Relations Office, and Ms. Aline Sariyildiz, Erasmus Vice Institutional Coordinator of Bursa Technical University.

A delegation from the university is expected in Ghana later this year to conclude the partnership agreement between the universities.

The family of late Lionel Mahama, a former headmaster of the Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) in Tamale, who won a court case against the school and Education service for wrongful demotion and freeze of salary, is ready to auction the confiscated assets of the school after failure by authorities, including government to pay a judgment debt awarded by the court.  Diana Awuni, daughter of the late headmaster told Starr News the family had finally secured a clearance document from the court and that a Kumasi-based auctioneer would arrive in Tamale in a fortnight to begin the process to liquidate the vehicles. 250 Labone students sacked for non-performance

Two hundred and fifty students of the Labone Senior High School (SHS) have been sacked for their abysmal performance in the end-of-year examination in July, this year. The students, who had an average of four failures in eight subjects, were sent packing when the first term of the 2014/2015 academic year began. Out of the number sacked, 155 of them were second-year students who were supposed to go to Form Three, while 95 were first-year students entering their second year.Also, 171 students who had an average of three failures in the examination have been asked to repeat their forms. About 800 Form Two students of the school were supposed to enter Form Three, while the number of first years who were expected to enter second year was 1,000. Soldiers Brutalise Students Of Wa Islamic School

Two students of the Islamic Senior High School in Wa were admitted to hospital yesterday following a high-handed military action to quell a stand-off between the students and the school authorities. The students, a male and a female, were the main casualties of an apparent simultaneous police and military action to break the front of the students, as their peaceful protest degenerated into chaos. The soldiers allegedly invaded the girls’ dormitory and started beating the riotous students following a call to the police to go to the school and restore order. Gov’t Intervenes As Court Orders Auctioning Of GHANASCO Cars

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mohammed Haroon Cambodia has confirmed government will be paying a staggering GHC400,000 as judgment debt to a private citizen in order to stop the auctioning of vehicles belonging to the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. Government is offering the bailout following a chronic transport difficulty that has hit the school for the last two years after a court order impounded the only bus for students and a brand new official pickup vehicle. Two Nissan patrol vehicles belonging to the Education directorate were also taken by the court. The vehicles were confiscated to be auctioned to pay up salary arrears of a former headmaster of the school who accused the school and education service of injustices including inappropriate dismissal and concealing his promotion letter.
