BECE 2022 results to be released January 25

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the results for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School and Private Candidates, 2022, will be released on Wednesday, January 25, 2023.

The Ministry of Education’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kwasi Kwarteng had in an earlier interview said the results would be released on January 19 but the Council in a statement issued today said it was currently conducting post-examination activities having successfully conducted the examination at 2,023 centres and completed co-ordination and marking exercises.

A total of 553,408 candidates, including 1,132 private candidates, wrote the examination, which ended on Friday, October 21, 2022.


WAEC urges suspected cheats to respond to invitations

It said investigations were ongoing into examination irregularity cases detected during and after the conduct of the examination.

"For a quick resolution of malpractice cases, the Council appeals to affected school authorities and candidates to respond with dispatch to its invitation," the statement said.

"Candidates are informed that their refusal to honour such invitations shall not impede the Council from making a final determination on the cases in question.

"The Council urges the public to disregard all information circulating on social media indicating that the results have been released, among others. Parents and candidates should remain calm as the Council works towards the release of results".

UDS Vice Chancellor kicks against conversion of polytechnics into universities

Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS) Prof. Gabriel Ayum Teye has made a case against the planned conversion of polytechnics into universities. According to him, the move will only increase the graduate unemployment population which currently stands at 300,000. This is according to data from the Institute of Statistical and Economic Research (ISSER). “Now we have 10 public universities that produce graduates and by next month we will have 16 public universities in Ghana. “So if you’re having problems with 10 and you add another 6 to it making 16 are you solving the problem or compounding it,” he queried. Gov’t Intervenes As Court Orders Auctioning Of GHANASCO Cars

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mohammed Haroon Cambodia has confirmed government will be paying a staggering GHC400,000 as judgment debt to a private citizen in order to stop the auctioning of vehicles belonging to the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. Government is offering the bailout following a chronic transport difficulty that has hit the school for the last two years after a court order impounded the only bus for students and a brand new official pickup vehicle. Two Nissan patrol vehicles belonging to the Education directorate were also taken by the court. The vehicles were confiscated to be auctioned to pay up salary arrears of a former headmaster of the school who accused the school and education service of injustices including inappropriate dismissal and concealing his promotion letter.
