1 killed, 3 injured in renewed chieftaincy dispute at Yong Dakpema Yile in Tamale

One person has been killed and three others injured in renewed chieftaincy dispute at Yong Dakpema Yile in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern Region. Four houses have also been burnt. The injured included Mohammed Chimsi, one of the brothers claiming the skin, and his wife. The victims are receiving medical attention at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. There was sporadic shooting this afternoon in the community between the two sides of the chieftaincy divide forcing community members to flee to safety. An eyewitness told JoyNews that the attackers opened fire on the police when they moved in to pick Mohammed Chimsi who had been shot. There is currently a heavy security presence in the area. There has been a long-standing dispute between the two brothers over who is the rightful person to occupy the Yong skin. Are You Really Muted? Mute Buttons in Video Conferencing Apps

  Researchers from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Chicago have found in a research that muting popular video calling apps does not actually mute the microphone, continuing to record from it.  According to the researchers, the mute buttons in the apps do not deactivate the microphone, but only mute it for other users. The worst part is that it's hard to know when an app isn't analyzing sound, since the microphone and camera on indicator doesn't work with all video calling apps.  Zoom, Microsoft Teams/Skype, Cisco Webex, Google Meet, Jitsi Meet and Discord are on the list of users who like to eavesdrop. We have not introduced uniforms for teachers – GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dispelled claims that teachers in public schools will henceforth wear uniforms to their workplace. Over the weekend, some social media users reported that teachers will now report to work in dull peach coloured shirts and deep brown skirts and trousers with the Ghana Education Service tag on the left pocket. In a Facebook post on Sunday, the GES noted that it has and would not issue a circular on social media announcing the introduction of uniforms for teachers. According to the Service, it cannot independently decide that teachers should wear uniforms to work since it would have to engage the various teacher unions. “GES is one of the largest Government agencies in Ghana. We employ more than half of all government employees. If we want to introduce uniforms for teachers, we won’t do that through social media and over the weekend,”  the Service added. The Service has implored the public to disregard such reports as they are “fake news”.

Ramatu Mahama, wife of former Veep Aliu Mahama passes on at 70

Ramatu Aliu Mahama (Neè Egala), the wife of the late former Vice President Aliu Mahama, has passed on at age 70. Affectionately known as Hajia Ramatu, she died yesterday, her son, Farouk Mahama, who is also the Member of Parliament for Yendi has confirmed. "It is with deep sorrow, I announce the passing of my beloved mom, the former Second Lady of the Republic, Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama (neè Egala). She passed on peaceful in Accra at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital earlier this afternoon.   Farouk Mahama announced. "The family has lost a great pillar. Burial and funeral rites would be conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions. Further information will be provided in due course,"  he added. Gov’t Intervenes As Court Orders Auctioning Of GHANASCO Cars

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mohammed Haroon Cambodia has confirmed government will be paying a staggering GHC400,000 as judgment debt to a private citizen in order to stop the auctioning of vehicles belonging to the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. Government is offering the bailout following a chronic transport difficulty that has hit the school for the last two years after a court order impounded the only bus for students and a brand new official pickup vehicle. Two Nissan patrol vehicles belonging to the Education directorate were also taken by the court. The vehicles were confiscated to be auctioned to pay up salary arrears of a former headmaster of the school who accused the school and education service of injustices including inappropriate dismissal and concealing his promotion letter.
