WhatsApp beta for Android introduces new feature to help you quickly start chats with unsaved contacts

Currently, tapping on an unsaved contact in a WhatsApp chat opens the default dialer app. The app doesn’t give you the option to text the contact within the app, and you have to use a workaround to message unsaved numbers on WhatsApp.

However, that’s set to change soon, according to a recent report from WABetaInfo.

The latest WhatsApp beta update for Android (v2.22.8.11) includes a new feature that gives you multiple options while interacting with an unsaved number in a chat. As you can see in the attached screenshots, tapping on an unsaved number opens up a new pop-up menu. The menu gives you access to three options that let you instantly start a WhatsApp chat with the unsaved number, give it a call, or add it to contacts.

In case the unsaved contact does not have a WhatsApp account, the pop-up only gives you the option to call the number or add it to contacts. WABetaInfo notes that this new feature is rolling out to WhatsApp beta users on Android with the latest update, but it may also be available to some users on a previous beta release.

At the moment, we don’t have any info on when the feature will roll out on the stable channel. But since it has already started popping up for beta users, it shouldn’t be long before the feature gets a wider rollout. If you haven’t received the feature yet and you wish to text an unsaved contact, you can do so by opening a new browser window and typing out http://wa.me/ followed by the country code and phone number (eg. http://wa.me/911234567890). As soon as you hit go, the webpage will redirect you to a new WhatsApp chat window with the unsaved contact.

250 Labone students sacked for non-performance

Two hundred and fifty students of the Labone Senior High School (SHS) have been sacked for their abysmal performance in the end-of-year examination in July, this year. The students, who had an average of four failures in eight subjects, were sent packing when the first term of the 2014/2015 academic year began. Out of the number sacked, 155 of them were second-year students who were supposed to go to Form Three, while 95 were first-year students entering their second year.Also, 171 students who had an average of three failures in the examination have been asked to repeat their forms. About 800 Form Two students of the school were supposed to enter Form Three, while the number of first years who were expected to enter second year was 1,000. Family To Auction GHANASCO Cars As Govt Fails To Intervene

The family of late Lionel Mahama, a former headmaster of the Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) in Tamale, who won a court case against the school and Education service for wrongful demotion and freeze of salary, is ready to auction the confiscated assets of the school after failure by authorities, including government to pay a judgment debt awarded by the court.  Diana Awuni, daughter of the late headmaster told Starr News the family had finally secured a clearance document from the court and that a Kumasi-based auctioneer would arrive in Tamale in a fortnight to begin the process to liquidate the vehicles. Gov’t Intervenes As Court Orders Auctioning Of GHANASCO Cars

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mohammed Haroon Cambodia has confirmed government will be paying a staggering GHC400,000 as judgment debt to a private citizen in order to stop the auctioning of vehicles belonging to the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. Government is offering the bailout following a chronic transport difficulty that has hit the school for the last two years after a court order impounded the only bus for students and a brand new official pickup vehicle. Two Nissan patrol vehicles belonging to the Education directorate were also taken by the court. The vehicles were confiscated to be auctioned to pay up salary arrears of a former headmaster of the school who accused the school and education service of injustices including inappropriate dismissal and concealing his promotion letter.
