WhatsApp beta for Android introduces new feature to help you quickly start chats with unsaved contacts

Currently, tapping on an unsaved contact in a WhatsApp chat opens the default dialer app. The app doesn’t give you the option to text the contact within the app, and you have to use a workaround to message unsaved numbers on WhatsApp.

However, that’s set to change soon, according to a recent report from WABetaInfo.

The latest WhatsApp beta update for Android (v2.22.8.11) includes a new feature that gives you multiple options while interacting with an unsaved number in a chat. As you can see in the attached screenshots, tapping on an unsaved number opens up a new pop-up menu. The menu gives you access to three options that let you instantly start a WhatsApp chat with the unsaved number, give it a call, or add it to contacts.

In case the unsaved contact does not have a WhatsApp account, the pop-up only gives you the option to call the number or add it to contacts. WABetaInfo notes that this new feature is rolling out to WhatsApp beta users on Android with the latest update, but it may also be available to some users on a previous beta release.

At the moment, we don’t have any info on when the feature will roll out on the stable channel. But since it has already started popping up for beta users, it shouldn’t be long before the feature gets a wider rollout. If you haven’t received the feature yet and you wish to text an unsaved contact, you can do so by opening a new browser window and typing out http://wa.me/ followed by the country code and phone number (eg. http://wa.me/911234567890). As soon as you hit go, the webpage will redirect you to a new WhatsApp chat window with the unsaved contact.

District Assembly’s Vehicles Seized Over Indebtedness

A Bolgatanga High Court has impounded two vehicles belonging to the Talensi District Assembly for its inability to pay its debt to Tomore and Sons Company Ltd. The two cars are the official black Nissan Patrol of the District Chief Executive, with registration number GN 1790-11, and a red Navara Pick-Up with registration number GT 3591-11, which is the official vehicle for the District Coordinating Director. Tomore and Sons Company Ltd is demanding a total amount of GH¢ 81,345 from the Talensi District Assembly. The total debt comprises the principal amount of GH¢51,000, an interest of GH¢25,245 accrued from October 2012 to October 2014, and the legal cost of GH¢5,100. Fire guts NORRIP warehouse

A warehouse belonging to the Northern Regional Rural Integrated Programme (NORRIP) in Tamale was yesterday destroyed by fire. The cause of the fire, which was said to have begun at about 1:45 p.m. yesterday, is yet to be established. Items However, items destroyed at the facility included vulcanising machines, wielding machines, car spare parts, refrigerators, mattresses, beds, furniture, pumping machines, air filters, and four 20-footer containers containing varied household items. In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the acting Programme Manager of NORRIP, Mr Henry Ankrah, said his attention was drawn to the fire at about 2 p.m. by some staff members at the United Nations (UN) offices, which was close to the warehouse. The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mohammed Haroon Cambodia has confirmed government will be paying a staggering GHC400,000 as judgment debt to a private citizen in order to stop the auctioning of vehicles belonging to the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. Government is offering the bailout following a chronic transport difficulty that has hit the school for the last two years after a court order impounded the only bus for students and a brand new official pickup vehicle. Two Nissan patrol vehicles belonging to the Education directorate were also taken by the court. The vehicles were confiscated to be auctioned to pay up salary arrears of a former headmaster of the school who accused the school and education service of injustices including inappropriate dismissal and concealing his promotion letter.
