Dagbon Yaa-Naas funeral rites performance on course

The Northern Regional House of Chiefs has reiterated its plan to perform the funerals of the late two Yaa-Naas in Dagbon.

At its last sitting on December 10, 2014, the house resolved that funerals of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai and Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II should be performed latest by March 31, 2015.

Counsel for the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, Lawyer Fatawu Yakubu in an exclusive interview told Citi News the house hasn’t changed its position.

According to him, copies of a five point resolution adopted by the House were submitted to all the major stakeholders involved particularly both sides of the chieftaincy divide.

“The five points resolution has been forwarded to all the chiefs concerned and all those who are required to take any necessary actions have all received their copies of the resolution.”

He added, “Indeed most of them were present in the house when the resolution was passed: so we are currently working towards kick starting the process so that the funerals can be performed by the deadline which was given which is 31st March.”

He lauded the Otumfour Mediation Committee’s work so far and called for multiplicity of solutions to permanently resolve the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis.

“We are working as a regional house of chiefs within which Dagbon is situated and we must act responsibly towards the Dagbon problem: what the Otumfour committee is doing is also along the same lines and as and when they need our advice they will call on us, but once they are doing their work we must also be seen to be doing all things necessary within our power.”

293 staff resigned from GES in 2021 — Prof. Opoku-Amankwa

Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa - Director-General, Ghana Education Service The Director-General D-G of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, says only 293 staff resigned from the service in 2021. According to him, the total attrition from the payroll of the GES is 8,209, made up of 6,834 teaching staff and 1,375 non-teaching staff. Prof. Opoku-Amankwa gave the explanation as an official response to figures released by the Member of Parliament for the Builsa South Constituency, Dr Clement Apaak, that 44,000 out of the 284,000 teachers left the teaching profession in 2021. Gov’t Intervenes As Court Orders Auctioning Of GHANASCO Cars

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mohammed Haroon Cambodia has confirmed government will be paying a staggering GHC400,000 as judgment debt to a private citizen in order to stop the auctioning of vehicles belonging to the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. Government is offering the bailout following a chronic transport difficulty that has hit the school for the last two years after a court order impounded the only bus for students and a brand new official pickup vehicle. Two Nissan patrol vehicles belonging to the Education directorate were also taken by the court. The vehicles were confiscated to be auctioned to pay up salary arrears of a former headmaster of the school who accused the school and education service of injustices including inappropriate dismissal and concealing his promotion letter.
