Every WhatsApp message you send going forward can now disappear if you want

This won't affect existing chats, but it's a useful feature for those of you out there who want some more privacy.

Last year, WhatsApp introduced a new privacy-centric feature that allowed you to make your messages disappear. For it to work, though, you needed to manually activate the feature within all your chats.

Today, however, WhatsApp disappearing messages can now be set as the permanent default for all your one-on-one chats. 

That means every time you start a new chat, your messages will auto-delete after a set period of time without you needing to think about it.

Unfortunately, this does not work for existing chats. They will need to be manually deleted.

We have instructions below on how to turn this feature on. Once it’s on, your new one-on-one chats will have an alert that says the disappearing messages feature is on and that it’s the default. 

This is to alert your chatting partner of the feature. Obviously, if you want to turn it off for a specific chat, that’s possible to do.

You can set your messages to auto-delete after 24 hours, seven days, or 90 days. This is a nice extension of the feature since only the seven days option has been available since last year.

In a Facebook post, Mark Zuckerberg wrote, "We're rolling out a new disappearing messages option on WhatsApp today so you'll be able to make all new chats disappear by default after 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. Not all messages need to stick around forever." 


Unfortunately, group chats will not have WhatsApp disappearing messages by default. Instead, you’ll need to continue to manually turn this on, assuming the admin(s) of the group allows for it.

How to set WhatsApp disappearing messages as default

  1. Open WhatsApp on your Android or iOS device.
  2. Head to Settings > Account > Privacy > Default message timer.
  3. Select the duration of your chats: 24 hours, seven days, or 90 days.
  4. Going forward, all new one-on-one messages will auto-delete after the amount of time you just set.

Family To Auction GHANASCO Cars As Govt Fails To Intervene

The family of late Lionel Mahama, a former headmaster of the Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) in Tamale, who won a court case against the school and Education service for wrongful demotion and freeze of salary, is ready to auction the confiscated assets of the school after failure by authorities, including government to pay a judgment debt awarded by the court.  Diana Awuni, daughter of the late headmaster told Starr News the family had finally secured a clearance document from the court and that a Kumasi-based auctioneer would arrive in Tamale in a fortnight to begin the process to liquidate the vehicles. 250 Labone students sacked for non-performance

Two hundred and fifty students of the Labone Senior High School (SHS) have been sacked for their abysmal performance in the end-of-year examination in July, this year. The students, who had an average of four failures in eight subjects, were sent packing when the first term of the 2014/2015 academic year began. Out of the number sacked, 155 of them were second-year students who were supposed to go to Form Three, while 95 were first-year students entering their second year.Also, 171 students who had an average of three failures in the examination have been asked to repeat their forms. About 800 Form Two students of the school were supposed to enter Form Three, while the number of first years who were expected to enter second year was 1,000. It has emerged that the free senior high school education promised by President John Mahama, which he claims will be set in motion from the 2015/2016 academic year, is going to be at a cost of only GH¢50.00 per student. Gov’t Intervenes As Court Orders Auctioning Of GHANASCO Cars

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mohammed Haroon Cambodia has confirmed government will be paying a staggering GHC400,000 as judgment debt to a private citizen in order to stop the auctioning of vehicles belonging to the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. Government is offering the bailout following a chronic transport difficulty that has hit the school for the last two years after a court order impounded the only bus for students and a brand new official pickup vehicle. Two Nissan patrol vehicles belonging to the Education directorate were also taken by the court. The vehicles were confiscated to be auctioned to pay up salary arrears of a former headmaster of the school who accused the school and education service of injustices including inappropriate dismissal and concealing his promotion letter.
