The Common Core Programme Curriculum designed by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment for Ghanaian primary school is to place learning at the heart of every classroom teacher and ensuring that every learner receives a quality education.

The Common Core Programme was a 4-years program (JHS1-SHS1) but has been reviewed to a 3-year (JHS 1-3) comprising nine (9) subjects including Mathematics, Languages (English, French, Ghanaian and Arabic), Career Technology, Computing, Creative Arts and Design, Social Studies, Physical and Health Education, and RME.

It is a Standards-based curriculum develop to equip learners critical learning and problem solving skills.

Besides, the introduction of the Common Core Programme has brought a new Educational reforms in the Ghana Education Service in Ghana.

1. It is a three-year programme designed for JHS1- JHS3 learners.
2. It is to equip learners with the requisite knowledge, skills, and competencies for academic progression and world of work
3. The CPP starts progressively next academic year.

What makes Common Core Program Di erent?

The common core programme attributes of the learner, which describe the essential outcomes in the three domains of learning (i.e. cognitive, psychomotor and affective), are at the centre of the CCP). Hence, Inspired by the values which are important to the Ghanaian society.

Also, the CCP provides an education of the heart, mind and hands in relation to on the learner’s lifetime values, well-being, physical development, metacognition and problem-solving. Ultimately, this will produce character-minded learners who can play active roles in dealing with the increasing challenges facing Ghana and the global society.

The features that shape the common core programme includes:

• Teaching and learning approaches – the core competencies, 4Rs and pedagogical approaches
• Learning context – engagement service and project
• Learning areas – mathematics, science, computing, language and literacy, career rtechnology, social studies, physical and health education, creative arts and design and religious and moral education.
