7 arrested for possessing AK47 riffles and Taliban training videos

Seven persons have been arrested in Danton Daboase in the Northern Region in connection with two AK47 riffles and other undisclosed weapons retrieved from them.

A laptop, which had what Police suspect to be terrorism-training videos of Taliban, was also retrieved from the suspects whose strange movement in the town aroused the suspicion of the residents.

Northern Regional Police Public Relations officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, told TV3 that the residents reported the suspicious movement of two of the seven people to the Palace where they were invited.

They then led the two - Mahama Salifu Mustao and Issah Suale - to their residence and the two riffles plus other weapons were retrieved from them.

Our Northern Regional Correspondent, Zubaida Ismail, reports that a 60-year-old Idrisu Ibrahim Wumpuni, a resident of Lamashegu in Tamale, who went to the palace to plead for the release of the two, was also arrested.

Four others persons who also showed up at the Palace without any reasonable cause were also arrest. A search on them led revealed some undisclosed number of weapons was found in a sack, she reported.

A preliminary investigation has revealed all the seven persons live in the same household in Danton Daboase in the Salaga District.  They are currently in police custody.

District Assembly’s Vehicles Seized Over Indebtedness

A Bolgatanga High Court has impounded two vehicles belonging to the Talensi District Assembly for its inability to pay its debt to Tomore and Sons Company Ltd. The two cars are the official black Nissan Patrol of the District Chief Executive, with registration number GN 1790-11, and a red Navara Pick-Up with registration number GT 3591-11, which is the official vehicle for the District Coordinating Director. Tomore and Sons Company Ltd is demanding a total amount of GH¢ 81,345 from the Talensi District Assembly. The total debt comprises the principal amount of GH¢51,000, an interest of GH¢25,245 accrued from October 2012 to October 2014, and the legal cost of GH¢5,100. Fire guts NORRIP warehouse

A warehouse belonging to the Northern Regional Rural Integrated Programme (NORRIP) in Tamale was yesterday destroyed by fire. The cause of the fire, which was said to have begun at about 1:45 p.m. yesterday, is yet to be established. Items However, items destroyed at the facility included vulcanising machines, wielding machines, car spare parts, refrigerators, mattresses, beds, furniture, pumping machines, air filters, and four 20-footer containers containing varied household items. In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the acting Programme Manager of NORRIP, Mr Henry Ankrah, said his attention was drawn to the fire at about 2 p.m. by some staff members at the United Nations (UN) offices, which was close to the warehouse. He said when he heard about the fire incident, he quickly called personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mohammed Haroon Cambodia has confirmed government will be paying a staggering GHC400,000 as judgment debt to a private citizen in order to stop the auctioning of vehicles belonging to the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. Government is offering the bailout following a chronic transport difficulty that has hit the school for the last two years after a court order impounded the only bus for students and a brand new official pickup vehicle. Two Nissan patrol vehicles belonging to the Education directorate were also taken by the court. The vehicles were confiscated to be auctioned to pay up salary arrears of a former headmaster of the school who accused the school and education service of injustices including inappropriate dismissal and concealing his promotion letter.
