Video: 8 jailed for stealing materials for Tamale Airport project

Eight local artisans have been jailed for stealing building materials meant for the Tamale Airport expansion and upgrading project.

Some of them were charged for siphoning fuel whilst others were jailed for diverting large quantities of cement.

According to the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, some of the unruly local artisans have been sacked for various offences.

“Some of them have been sacked for truancy and everyday they siphon fuel from that place and everybody knows.”

He revealed this during the 2015 International Youth Day Celebration held in Tamale.

He described the situation as shameful.

“We are talking about youth unemployment, yes is true but in our little way we try to see how we can engage you but your attitudes are the problem.”

Alhaji Limuna said the chiefs of Tamale impressed upon him to take advantage of the project and secure employment for some of the youth.

“Dema Naa came with the chiefs of Tamale to confront me that the youth are complaining that they are not being considered for employment at the Airport project: we had to call the project coordinators and directors and we forced them to take our people and as we speak now eight of them have been sacked for stealing.”

Government secured funding for the expansion and upgrading of the Tamale Airport to meet international standard.
The project which is steadily progressing created employment for some of the idle youth in the Northern Region.

But the ineptitude of some of the local artisans coupled with their thievery has caused the imprisonment of eight.

Family To Auction GHANASCO Cars As Govt Fails To Intervene

The family of late Lionel Mahama, a former headmaster of the Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) in Tamale, who won a court case against the school and Education service for wrongful demotion and freeze of salary, is ready to auction the confiscated assets of the school after failure by authorities, including government to pay a judgment debt awarded by the court.  Diana Awuni, daughter of the late headmaster told Starr News the family had finally secured a clearance document from the court and that a Kumasi-based auctioneer would arrive in Tamale in a fortnight to begin the process to liquidate the vehicles. 250 Labone students sacked for non-performance

Two hundred and fifty students of the Labone Senior High School (SHS) have been sacked for their abysmal performance in the end-of-year examination in July, this year. The students, who had an average of four failures in eight subjects, were sent packing when the first term of the 2014/2015 academic year began. Out of the number sacked, 155 of them were second-year students who were supposed to go to Form Three, while 95 were first-year students entering their second year.Also, 171 students who had an average of three failures in the examination have been asked to repeat their forms. About 800 Form Two students of the school were supposed to enter Form Three, while the number of first years who were expected to enter second year was 1,000. The action, according to the Headmistress of the school, Mrs Mary Amankwah, was in line with the school’s policy agreed upon by both the students and their parents at the time oftheir admissions. Soldiers Brutalise Students Of Wa Islamic School

Two students of the Islamic Senior High School in Wa were admitted to hospital yesterday following a high-handed military action to quell a stand-off between the students and the school authorities. The students, a male and a female, were the main casualties of an apparent simultaneous police and military action to break the front of the students, as their peaceful protest degenerated into chaos. The soldiers allegedly invaded the girls’ dormitory and started beating the riotous students following a call to the police to go to the school and restore order. The two students were being treated and monitored at the Islamic Hospital in Wa as of press time yesterday, hospital sources told the Daily Graphic. Gov’t Intervenes As Court Orders Auctioning Of GHANASCO Cars

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mohammed Haroon Cambodia has confirmed government will be paying a staggering GHC400,000 as judgment debt to a private citizen in order to stop the auctioning of vehicles belonging to the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. Government is offering the bailout following a chronic transport difficulty that has hit the school for the last two years after a court order impounded the only bus for students and a brand new official pickup vehicle. Two Nissan patrol vehicles belonging to the Education directorate were also taken by the court. The vehicles were confiscated to be auctioned to pay up salary arrears of a former headmaster of the school who accused the school and education service of injustices including inappropriate dismissal and concealing his promotion letter.
