UDS, others Sanctioned

Image
The National Accreditation Board (NAB) has sanctioned Jayee University College and Datalink Institute, both private-owned, to cease enrolment in all their programmes for the 2015/16 academic year. The University of Development Studies, a government-owned tertiary institution, was also directed to cease fresh admissions to its Bachelor of Education in Health Science programme for 2015/16. Information available to the B&FT indicates that Datalink Institute was directed to cease fresh admissions due to overcrowding and poor physical facilities, while Jayee University College was also sanctioned due to a myriad of issues and deficiencies identified by auditors. The University of Education, Winneba -- the mentoring institution, is expected to provide close supervision of the students already enrolled in Jayee University College's programme until they graduate. This, according to NAD, is to ensure the students do not lose out on quality delivery. Jayee University College has a st

Full Statement: Adebayor Strips 'Ungrateful' Family Naked - Part 3

Image
SEA, if I decide to bring out the Part 3 today, it is because my brother @Kola Adebayor and my other siblings have decided to talk about our family issues on social medias, through letters to my club, radios…I could write an autobiography and sell it but I decided to share with you here. 25 years ago, my big older brother Kola went to Germany and he became the hope of our family. We all thought he could change the way we were living. Years after he left Togo, we still had no electricity and no phones. If he wanted to talk to us, he would call the Atlantic Hotel that was very close to our house. We would then run to the hotel reception and talk to him. When I got the opportunity to go play football in France for the first time, we needed money to for the flight tickets and other expenses. My brother was nowhere to be found. Only God knows what he was doing in Germany. When I arrived in France, I did all the paperwork with my team and they allowed me to stay in the academy. A few mont

Full Statement : Teacher trainees begin nationwide strike over withdrawal of allowance

Image
The Teacher Trainees' Association of Ghana wishes to ,for the last time reiterate its clarion call on the Mahama-led government to as a matter of urgency, reinstate the scrapped teacher trainees' allowances due to the following reasons : 1)Most parents cannot afford the cost of sponsoring their wards at the colleges of education as we speak. 2)The allowances withdrawal have driven away competent prospective teacher trainees to attend other tertiary institutions now that cost of acquiring diploma in colleges of education is much higher than other tertiary institutions. 3) The current level 100 & 200 trainees have to vacate classes to look for money to foot unbearable bills therefore impacting negatively on their training. They report late after re-opening or at best after registration, they always go back home to work for their fees and the repercussion of this on their training is negatively huge. 4)No allowance for teacher trainees also means they cannot be posted to &

Ghana takes last position in biggest global education rankings

Image
Ghana has been ranked last in the biggest global school rankings published by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). Singapore was ranked first, while four other Asian countries were in the first five. The analysis, based on test scores in maths and science in 76 countries, is a much wider map of education standards than the OECD's Pisa tests, which focus on more affluent industrialised countries. The latest Pisa test in 2012 polled 65 countries and regions. OECD's education director Andreas Schleicher said: "This is the first time we have a truly global scale of the quality of education." The OECD economic think tank says the comparisons show the link between education and economic growth. "The idea is to give more countries, rich and poor, access to comparing themselves against the world's education leaders, to discover their relative strengths and weaknesses, and to see what the long-term economic gains from improved qua

Bawku Senior High School, P.O.BOX 50, UE/R Bawku. 12th May 2015. The Presidency, Flagstaff house, P.O.BOX 1122, Accra. Your Excellency JDM, I write this letter to you on behalf of my fellow Ghanaian "dumsor'ee". I write this letter on behalf of the thousand Ghanaians who lost their jobs as a result of the erratic power supply. I write this letter on behalf of the thousand Ghanaians WASSCE candidate that wholly lost hope during the WASSCE vigil as a result of this same "dumsor". I write this letter on behalf of the one million Ghanaians whose trauma and self-revulsion for what they have witnessed, endured and done in Ghana has led them to living under hospice care. I write this letter on behalf of us all. I write this letter not because I think you grasp the terrible human and moral consequences of your lies, manipulation, and thirst for wealth and power as others think, but because I see the good job you are doing for my motherland that others are refu

Ghana and Ivory Coast clinch deal on maritime dispute: Annan

Image
GENEVA/ABIDJAN (Reuters) - The presidents of Ivory Coast and Ghana reached a deal on Monday in talks on a maritime border dispute that had frozen new oil drilling in a contested area, mediator Kofi Annan told Reuters. "We have a deal," the former U.N. secretary general told Reuters, as he wrapped up the talks in Geneva. He did not elaborate and officials did not immediately disclose the terms of the agreement. It appeared to have been reached quickly. Ivory Coast's presidency said President Alassane Ouattara had left Abidjan on Sunday for the discussions with his Ghanaian counterpart John Dramani Mahama. An international tribunal ruled last month that Ghana could continue developing a $4.9 billion offshore oil project in the area but imposed a ban on new drilling. The decision by the Hamburg-based International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea was regarded as positive for Ghana and British oil firm Tullow, which leads a consortium developing the TEN field, where it has

SEA, here is another part of the story I have kept inside since. Today I feel the constant need to let it out. If I share my stories, it is because I believe every story comes with a lesson. And the lesson is for anyone that is reading this. This is about a brother who keeps saying today that I am not a good support for our family. His name is Rotimi Adebayor. At the age of 13, he did something very bad. He and I know what he did. Because of that our parents had to send him to a village far from the big city. When I started to be successful in football and I went to Togo for vacation; at that time one of my mother’s friend came from the village to visit us. As she explained how Rotimi was suffering in the village, I immediately asked them to bring him back into the city. As soon as he came back, I made sure I put him in school. For me that is normal. In 2002, I went to play the AFCON in Mali and I had the huge privilege to swap my shirt with Marc-Vivien Foé. May his soul rest in peace

Former AIDS Ambassador Joyce Dzidzor Blasts Yvonne Nelson, Sark and CO On Dumsor

Image
It's a pity to see Yvonne Nelson, Sarkodie ETC who Knows nothing about Ghana's history as far as energy is concerned speak as if our president doesn't know his left and right. Dumsor started years ago under President John Agyekum Kuffour's administration when Ghana went through a painful erratic power supply before Mahama came to power. Under former president kufour',s administration, there was Dumsor but he also did his best but yet the situation wasn't properly rectified which is giving Ghanaians more challenging times now. In my opinion, I don't think any president will enjoy being criticized for this long if he knows or have an immediate solution to a particular challenge. No president is perfect but I think President Mahama is human and knows good from bad. Enough is enough. Ghanaians should show a little respect to our leaders and stop insulting them , in the name of Freedom of speech. What at all will president mahama benefit in deliberately se

Government releases feeding grant to schools in the North

Image
Government assisted senior high schools (SHSs) and technical  and vocational institutes in the three northern regions have reopened, following the release of the feeding grant by the government to the schools. A visit to some of the schools by the Daily Graphic  yesterday showed that the students had arrived and were ready to begin academic work. Serious academic work would begin next week by which time the current West African Senior Secondary Certification Examination (WASSCE) candidates would have finished with their examinations. The reopening of SHSs, technical and vocational schools in the three regions were postponed from April 20, 2015 to April 27 following delays in the release of the feeding grant to the schools in the three regions by the government. Some of the students who spoke to the Daily Graphic during the visit said they reported last week Monday, April 27,2015 but serious academic work was yet to resume following the ongoing WASSCE. Heads of some of the schools a

SEA, I have kept these stories for a long time but I think today it is worth sharing some of them with you. It's true that family matters should be solved internally and not in public but I am doing this so that hopefully all families can learn from what happened in mine. Also keep in mind that none of this is about money. At the age of 17, with my first wages as a footballer, I built a house for my family and made sure they are safe. As you all know, I have received the trophy of African Player of the Year in 2008. I also brought my mother on stage with me to thank her for everything. In that same year, I brought her to London for various medical check ups. When my daughter was born, we contacted my mum to inform her but she immediately hung up the phone and didn't wanna know hear about it. Reading your recent comments, some people said my family and I should consult T.B Joshua. In 2013, I gave my mother money so she could consult him in Nigeria. She was supposed to stay for

Teachers in Central Region receive computers

Image
The Central Regional Co-ordinating Council has presented 1,000 laptops to teachers from selected basic schools in the Central Region. The teachers, who are from 17 of the 20 districts in the region, were presented with the computers at a ceremony in Cape Coast last Monday. The Central Regional Minister, Mr Acquinas Tawiah Quansah, who did the presentation, said considering it that technological infrastructure had become an essential component in education, the government was working to make sure the sector was well resourced. He said the government would provide more laptops to schools in the rural areas, to ensure that they were also  abreast of latest developments. Mr Quansah added that the government intended to provide solar-powered laptops to schools in communities that were not connected to electricity. He urged the teachers who got the computers to use them for research and other academic purposes and desist from using them for purely private matters. He urged the Ghana Ed

Prospective national service personnel asked to register

Image
The National Service Secretariat (NSS) has set Monday, May 11, 2015, as the final date for the registration of prospective service personnel for the 2015/2016 service year. It has, therefore, called on prospective service personnel to register and be enrolled in a timely manner to enable the scheme to release its deployment and placement information early to avoid any inconvenience. “It is only when  national service personnel enrol in a timely manner that the management of the scheme will be able to ensure that deployed and placement information of personnel is released early to achieve the objectives of the scheme’s new posting calendar,” the acting Executive Director of the scheme, Dr Michael Kpessa-Whyte, said in a statement. The inability of personnel to enrol early enough could result in them not being able to offer their service “this programme year”. “It will be recalled that the management of the scheme earlier this year announced changes in the posting arrangements and su

The Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Education, Mr Safo Kantanka has instituted swift investigations into the death of second year old student of the Effiduase Senior High School in the Ashanti Region. Kusi, who was in the forefront of those chasing the rodent, lifted his sharp cutlass to kill the animal. It said when Kusi fell, they all thought he

Lydia Forson writes an open letter to Pres. Mahama

I’ve been [wanting] to write this for a while, but every time I start I’m just reminded of all the drama my friends face on my behalf every time I “speak” my mind. I’ve told them to stop fighting my battles, but well they won’t listen. Personally, I’m past caring about what people think of the things I have to say, it’s not for their benefit that I write; it’s for the many people who don’t have a voice or a platform like mine to express themselves. But last night I had an encounter with a man who all but told me that I need to shut up about issues that aren’t about me or don’t concern me. Now being the lady that I “pretend” to be I basically tried to keep my cool and let him know, my parents didn’t raise me to be a fool. They raised me to ask questions, think and have an opinion. So in honour of the fool whose STUPIDITY can’t be cured, I’m about to go in on something I’ve tried to stay out of, you know, just to piss him off a little. Ha, I like that, piss him off! See I’ve kept mu
