Abudus and Andanis frustrating Tamale Police

The Police in Tamale in the Northern Region has revealed how the two main chieftaincy gates in the region, Abudus and Andanis, are hampering their efforts to maintain sanity on the roads.

The Abudu and Andani Royal gates are also perceived to be divided politically, withsoft spots for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Police has begun to clamp down on traffic regulation offenders in Tamale because of a recent report that revealed, about 88 people have died through road crashes in the Northern Region within the last eight months.

According to the Police, any attempt to arrest traffic offenders who belong to anyof the two gates, results in verbal abuse and accusations of being bias against one of the factions.

Frustrated Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah Speaking at a meeting with tipper truck driver unions in Tamale said; “Why is it that we don’t want the laws to be enforced in Tamale? Once you arrest somebody you are in trouble, hey, because he is an Abudu that is why you have arrested him, hey, because he is an Andanithat is why,” he questioned.

He advised motorists in the region to separate politics and chieftaincy matters from law enforcement.

“From Monday the chiefs have assured me that if you go to them they are not going tohelp you: I have spoken to the political party leaders in Tamale that I don’t want anybody to say that he belongs to my party, from Monday if you are arrested by the MTTU, no begging,” he warned.

The MTTU in the region has served notice that it will intensify the arrest of traffic regulation offenders in the Tamale Township from Monday.
