Stop trivialising issues!

There is a tendency in this country for us to trivialize everything. When a serious issue comes up and gets widespread attention, instead of attaching the importance that it demands to it, we look for a way to turn it into a joke and somehow allow it blow past.

But something more serious is on ground now. It is the outbreak of the ebola virus. The facts on ground prove that for now, there is no known cure for the ebola virus. To serious minded people, this is a very serious issue, a near epidemic with serious consequences. But this is Ghana, where everything is trivialized & worse still, exploited.

But ebola is not one of our numerous political and economic problems. Ebola is not about corruption. Ebola is likely to be here, and if we do not prepare to face this squarely with all we have, ebola will engulf us, and kill all of us.

This is no joke. This is not an issue that should follow the same path as other issues we have faced in this country. This is an issue that demands extreme sensitization.

My dears, please do not let this one be scripted in the manner of every Ghanaian story because this one may not end in the same manner.

A cross section of the Andani family   The Andani Royal Family in Dabgon has declared it is ready to engage the Abudu Family in yet another war over the latter’s notice to forcibly enter the Gbewaa Palace to perform the funeral rites of their late Regent, Naa Abdulai Mahamadu IV. The Abudu Family in a mammoth press conference on 11 January, 2016 in Yendi threatened government and the Asantehene-led committee with a two-week ultimatum to enforce processes that would grant them access to the Gbewaa Palace or they shall use other means to gain access to the palace. “We are compelled under the circumstances to serve notice that if by Monday, January 25 2016 there is no renovation works going on at the Gbewaa Palace for the two funerals we shall advice ourselves. Hence, it was patently unfair to criticize a man whose maximum ambition was to become a member of parliament (MP), suddenly stumped into national limelight by head honcho Maximus. This was a bad dream. But that was then, and this is now. This clueless MP turned deputy minister, turned minister, turned vice president has now been President a year going. That is a lifetime in politics;and if he were learning on the job- he should be an expert now. Indeed, he is already showing the worst traits of a political operator. This man is playing hard. He has a new swagger in his steps, but they seem to be swagger of missteps – the worst lessons a student of politics can pick up in this school of hard knocks.
