Presidential shake up continues: Ahwoi heads to South Africa, Gariba to Canada as ambassadors

President Mahama has  nominated former Interior Minister Kwesi Ahwoi as  Ghana's ambassador to South Africa while his Senior Policy Advisor Sulley Gariba ships out to Canada.

Sulley Gariba's appointment will be seen as the first of expected shake-ups at the Presidency signaled last July by President John Dramani Mahama.

A statement issued by the Flagstaff House says the two names have been submitted to the Council of State for consideration.

The changes are the latest after President Mahama brought in a sidelined former Communications minister Spio- Garbrah as new trade minister.

Dr. Sulley Gariba is a policy, governance and evaluation specialist with over 30 years’ experience in providing governance and strategic advice to Governments, regional and International institutions.

Mr. Ahwoi on his part has held various positions in government and business.

He is a former Minister of State and also a former Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotions Centre.

He has several years of professional experience as Chairman, Chief Executive, Economic Researcher, Senior Manager, Management Consultant and Market/Field Researcher in both government, private and international business environments, especially trade development, capacity building and private sector expertise development in export marketing, and investment promotion.

President John Mahama last July, alerted all his appointees, from the mighty to the minion, to brace themselves for "certain changes and/or re-assignments of portfolios in the Office of the President".

In letters signed by the President himself and given to the appointees including the Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani and other senior presidential advisers and aides, John Mahama thanked his team for services rendered to his government and to Ghana.
