GES Releases Approved Fees For SHSs

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released approved fees for second-cycle institutions for the 2015/16 academic year. Boarding students are expected to pay GH¢724.50, while day students will be required to pay GH¢405.50. The Director-General of the GES, Mr Jacob A.M. Kor, who signed the letter on the approved fees to be forwarded to all heads of second-cycle institutions, said admission fees would be GH¢20 and examination fees GH¢10 for boarders, day and technical students. Breakdown The letter said for boarders, feeding fee at GH¢3.30 per day would amount to GH¢308, while entertainment, library and SRC fees would be GH¢2, GH¢3 and GH¢2 respectively. Others such as cumulative records, sports and culture fees will be GH¢5, GH¢5, GH¢3, respectively. However, boarders would each pay GH¢2 as maintenance fees. Hence, it was patently unfair to criticize a man whose maximum ambition was to become a member of parliament (MP), suddenly stumped into national limelight by head honcho Maximus. This was a bad dream. But that was then, and this is now. This clueless MP turned deputy minister, turned minister, turned vice president has now been President a year going. That is a lifetime in politics;and if he were learning on the job- he should be an expert now. Indeed, he is already showing the worst traits of a political operator. This man is playing hard. GES DG Distributes TM1 Laptops to teachers

The Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, witnessed the distribution of Laptops to teachers at O'Reily Senior High School in Accra on Monday. The distribution train made a stop at the O'reily SHS amidst cheers and excitement from teachers. In presenting the devices, the Director General discounted the perception that the TM 1 Laptops are of poor quality simply because they were not coming from any of the known brands of computers. On the cost of the Laptop as being expensive, the DG said "even the simplest smartphone does not cost less than GHc 500.00" and that if a "teacher is parting away with such an amount to own a Laptop, that cannot be described as shortchanging the teacher."
