Family To Auction GHANASCO Cars As Govt Fails To Intervene

By Abdul-Latif Ahmed - April 20, 2018

The family of late Lionel Mahama, a former headmaster of the Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) in Tamale, who won a court case against the school and Education service for wrongful demotion and freeze of salary, is ready to auction the confiscated assets of the school after failure by authorities, including government to pay a judgment debt awarded by the court. Diana Awuni, daughter of the late headmaster told Starr News the family had finally secured a clearance document from the court and that a Kumasi-based auctioneer would arrive in Tamale in a fortnight to begin the process to liquidate the vehicles. The only bus of the school, an official Pick up vehicle, and two Nissan patrol cars belonging to the education service have been left rotting in the courtyard for two years now since its confiscation in 2016, after the school failed to pay up salary arrears of the late tutor. The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mohammed Haroon Cambodia has confirmed government will be paying a staggering GHC400,000 as judgment debt to a private citizen in order to stop the auctioning of vehicles belonging to the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale. Government is offering the bailout following a chronic transport difficulty that has hit the school for the last two years after a court order impounded the only bus for students and a brand new official pickup vehicle. By Abdul-Latif Ahmed - February 22, 2018

The Ambariyya and Masjidul Bayan rival Sunni Islamic factions in Tamale have clashed at the Northern Regional police headquarters Wednesday morning. The melee was triggered when the leader of the Masjidul Bayan sect, Sheik Ibrahim Baasha, went to the police station to report an attack on his mosque two days ago by the Ambariyya faction. Sheik Bayan, according to Starr News’ Eliasu Tanko, drove to the headquarters and told the police a scholar of the Ambariyya sect attacked him Sunday night while he was preaching about how he broke away from the Ambariyya faction. Hundreds of the Ambariyya members then massed up at the police station to prevent the police from detaining the accused scholar. Violence then broke out as more and more angry Ambariyya members arrived at the station to prevent the detention.
