Dagbon Traditional Council  Dagboŋ Traditional Council Meets on Regional Reorganization Saturday, 23 December 2017 The Regent of Dagboŋ, and acting President of the Dagboŋ Traditional Council, Kampakuya-Naa, Andani Yakubu Abdulai called a special Expanded Council meeting to discuss the Government initiated Constitutional processes on Regional Reorganization. The Special Meeting of the Dagboŋ Traditional Council (DTC) was held at the forecourt of the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi today. The meeting brought together Paramount Chiefs, Divisional Chiefs and prominent citizens of the Dagboŋ Traditional Area. In all, chiefs from 13 Districts, (Metro and Municipalities included) that makeup the Dagboŋ Traditional Areas in the Northern Region attended the special expanded meeting. The Central Bank Governor, Dr Abdul Nashiru Issahaku has resigned.

Citi Business News  has gathered his resignation takes effect from the  1st of April, 2017 . It’s unclear what led to his resignation but the Governor is reported to have cited personal reasons for the move. Dr Issahaku was appointed Governor of the Bank of Ghana by former President, John Mahama in April, 2016 after his predecessor Dr. Henry Wampah resigned. He was the 14th person to have been appointed Governor of the BoG. Prior to his appointment as Governor, he was the the Second Deputy Governor of the BoG. His stay at the post had been questioned, following the coming into power of the Nana Akufo-Addo government. At the time, some industry players defended his occupancy of the position, stating that the BoG Law protected governors from being dismissed. He had recently come under fire for approving a 4.6 billion cedis contract to allow the company, Sibton Switch System to execute mobile money inetroperability. Fire guts St. Charles SHS dormitory in Tamale

Five hundred and three (503) students of the St Charles Senior High School in Tamale have lost their entire property in a fire that gutted their two-storey dormitory block on Tuesday night. The fire started at 21:20 hours when all the students were attending preps but due to the extensive nature of the fire, none of them could retrieve anything from their dormitories. Mr. Polycarp Kuusokub Beyelle, the Headmaster of the school told the media that the damage was beyond the school’s management and appealed for immediate help to ensure smooth academic work. He said the entire roof and ceiling of the block including the ground floor had been totally burnt while, property comprising books, food and clothing of the students was also destroyed in the fire. “This needs the intervention of the public to help restore hope in the affected students.” Alhaji Mohammed Haroun Cambodia, the Northern Regional Director of Education bemoaned the rate of fire outbreaks and advised schools...

Gang-raping 12-yr old to death; police begins manhunt for suspects

The Tamale Metropolitan Police Command is on a manhunt for some alleged gang rapists whose assault caused the death of a 12-year old girl on Wednesday, February 22.  The 12-year old deceased was a class five pupil of the Tamale Bishops Roman Catholic Primary School located at Choggu.  The sad incident occurred at the deceased’s Wurishe residence near the Tamale Technical University.  Her remains have been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue, while police investigations are underway.  Her traumatized family relations have remained tight-lipped on the incident.  Some students of Al-Wahada Islamic Primary School have called for rapid justice. They bemoaned her death, which according to them has caused fear and panic among female pupils in the area. Fire guts NORRIP warehouse

A warehouse belonging to the Northern Regional Rural Integrated Programme (NORRIP) in Tamale was yesterday destroyed by fire. The cause of the fire, which was said to have begun at about 1:45 p.m. yesterday, is yet to be established. Items However, items destroyed at the facility included vulcanising machines, wielding machines, car spare parts, refrigerators, mattresses, beds, furniture, pumping machines, air filters, and four 20-footer containers containing varied household items. In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the acting Programme Manager of NORRIP, Mr Henry Ankrah, said his attention was drawn to the fire at about 2 p.m. by some staff members at the United Nations (UN) offices, which was close to the warehouse. He said when he heard about the fire incident, he quickly called personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). However, he said, it took the personnel from the fire service between 30 to 40 minutes to arrive at the scene. Mr Ankrah said the...

Five NPP supporters arrested with AK-47 rifle

The Police in the Northern region have arrested five persons suspected to be supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly seizing a revenue collection point on the Savelugu-Kpalung road. Seizure of public properties including toll booths became rampant immediately after the change of government. President Akufo-Addo condemned the act in his State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Wednesday. A police source told the state-owned Daily Graphic the ring leader of the group known as Abdulai Alhassan Gariba, 32, is currently behind bars with four others. The source revealed an AK-47 assault rifle was found hidden in the engine compartment of a taxi he was driving at the time of arrest. In addition two magazines loaded with 32 rounds of ammunitions were also found concealed under the driver’s seat; a machete was found in the boot of the car.
